Acupuncture is one of the oldest and continuously practiced medical systems in the world. The practice of acupuncture involves inserting hair thin needles into specific points on the body to help rebalance the individuals qi 氣 (a vital energy force that flows through all living things). Over the course of 2,000 years, it has developing over a large geographical area. The practice of acupuncture itself has many different styles and traditions. Some common styles/traditions include: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Classical Five Element Acupuncture, Japanese, Korean, Auricular, Master Tung Acupuncture and Dr. Tan's Balance Method.

DOES ACUPUNCTURE REALLY WORK?

Yes! Acupuncture is extremely effective for a variety of conditions, besides being one of the oldest continually practiced forms of medicine still practice today, The World Health Organization's "Acupuncture:Review and Analysis of Reports on Controlled Clinical Trials" has stated acupuncture as a effective treatment for over 40 conditions. A current search on "acupuncture" at the National Institutes of Health PubMed database yields more than 24,000 articles. Acupuncture is also proven to be effective on cats, dogs, horses and other animals; who do not understand the process and still get better.

DOES ACUPUNCTURE HURT?

No, it does not hurt, but acupuncture is not sensation-less. Many people experience acupuncture needling differently. Tingling, numbness or "traveling" sensations are common. Sometimes needles may pinch, but are rarely painful.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY VISIT?

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing, such as sweatpants, loose t-shirts, etc. Be prepared to remove socks or stockings as well.

PLEASE, NO PERFUMES or strong smelling cosmetics/soaps/lotions containing them. Many patients are allergic to them. Mild aromatherapy scents are acceptable.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED?

The number of treatments needed differs from person to person. For acute problems, fewer treatments are needed. For chronic or complex issues, one to two treatments a week for several months may be required. For health maintenance 4-5 treatments during the change of the seasons may be all that is necessary.
